My life...recently.

Jun. 19th, 2007 | 10:37 am

So for those of you (Well more like just Jonathan since I've actually seen Cynthia lately) who are wondering where Christen went, well it can be summed up in one word: Work. I've been working 30-38 hour weeks lately and when I haven't been at work, I've been either trying to catch up on Digg, playing Chrono Trigger or at Jon's.

Last Wednesday, I drove up to Tulsa to enroll. It was soooo exciting! Here's my schedule....

Mondays:
11:00AM to 11:50AM CS-1043-02 Intro to Program Problem Solving
12:00PM to 12:50PM Bus-1001-10 CBA Orientation
1:00PM to 1:50PM HON-1003-03 Honors Greek History, Philosophy, and Drama
2:000PM to 3:15PM MATH-1103-02 Business Calculus
6:00PM to 8:45PM BUS-1013-05 Business in Society

Tuesdays:
12:30PM to 1:45PM CPLT-2713-01 The Faust Myth in German Literature and Film
2:00PM to 3:15PM CS-1040-L3 Intro to Program Problem Solving Lab

Wednesdays:
11:00AM to 11:50AM CS-1043-02 Intro to Program Problem Solving
1:00PM to 1:50PM HON-1003-03 Honors Greek History, Philosophy, and Drama
2:000PM to 3:15PM MATH-1103-02 Business Calculus

Thursdays:
12:30PM to 1:45PM CPLT-2713-01 The Faust Myth in German Literature and Film

Fridays:
11:00AM to 11:50AM CS-1043-02 Intro to Program Problem Solving
1:00PM to 1:50PM HON-1003-03 Honors Greek History, Philosophy, and Drama

Tell me that even though its 7 classes and 18 credit hours that it's totally not easy. I'm pretty damned excited about it. Especially my honors and Faust class. Oh, and my computer class I think is going to cover Java, since it was on the name in Facebook. I think it'll be pretty easy too. Give me a good feel for whether or not I want to pick up the IST major or not.

I just called my advisor today though: I need to see about taking Calculus instead of basic calc, since the engineering school requires it. I'm hoping I don't have to take like three math classes just to get to take my stat requirement and all. But meh, I've never been bad at math, and I have good math habits now thanks to Mrs. Hall. I miss that class, lol.

I'm also excited because I got my first reading list: my honors class. I just have to read this book about Greek mythology and the Illiad. FUN!

So I'm finally woken up for the day so I'm going to call Jon to see if he wants to go to White Water...it's finally warm enough to I think.

Oh, and Jonathan: Go look at my pictures on Facebook! You can see my new shiny laptop... Even if it's a vista. Vista is like soo uncool in someways, and cool in others. I just dislike all the bloatware I got with it. But hey, it cost only 600 bucks.

Cabin Fever

Jan. 18th, 2007 | 11:17 pm
mood: bored bored

Oh god. I've been to school for a whopping seven days since the beginning of the year. I love the new superintendent. Yay, for evil Bob Moore is gone. (He was the bastard that tried to block the GAPP trip) I've been SO bored though. Bored enough to finish Kingdom Hearts and start Kingdom Hearts II. I love that game.

So I didn't make the finalist cut for the McDermott scholarship. I have to admit, I was kinda suprised. I fit all the requirements they had asked for and I thought my essays were pretty good too, but they said in the letter that they had a lot more applicants than last year and that a lot of people that would have made it in past years didn't make the cut this time. Still, I was really bummed. I'm still waiting on my scholarship letter from UTD and Tulsa. I did finally get my acceptance letter from UTD. Won't matter much though I don't think.

It was pretty awesome. I was shopping at Old Navy and ran into Diana Perez. I really miss last year's grade. So many of my friends were in it...but then again there were some people in it that I'd prefer never seeing again for one reason or another. I just can't wait to graduate though.

So I came into this wanting to make a serious post with some great big point, but once again it's kinda pointless. I think it's because I'm so damned bored. Cabin Fever doesn't even begin to start to describe it. At least though I've been able to watch American Idol. I think it's so cool that 5 people from OU (two of which are graduates from Classen Class of 2005 that I remember really well) made it to the hollywood round. I can't wait to see them audition and to see if any of them make it on. :)

Someone find me something to do!!!

Edit: I almost forgot to add: I made straight A's on my semester report card for the first time since elementary school. The closest I've ever been was in 9th grade first semester, but I made a B in Geometry. God I hated that class... lol. And Mrs. Hall says I'm not bad at it now. I just was then I guess...

Jobs and College

Jan. 4th, 2007 | 06:18 pm
location: My room
mood: contemplative contemplative

So I've had another career idea change. I've been thinking a lot lately, and I've slowly come to realize I'm not going to be a Comp Sci major. I can't see myself working behind a desk, in a cubicle, the rest of my life. I love interacting with people too much. While we were going to their cabin, Jon's dad was telling me he thought I would do well as a marketing person for a technology company. That got me to thinking. Wouldn't it be cool to dual major in something like Info Tech and marketing, and learn Japanese, and work for a company like Sony or Nintendo and do marketing for them?

Which brings me to my next dilemma. OCU has a great communications school, but I'm not so sure how good their job placement is. Tulsa, I don't know how strong the program in the major is. UTD is out of the picture if I decide to go this career route. So once again, it comes down to what major I want to be. I really need to find out what the Atech major is totally about, and start thinking. Ohhh woe is me. Not really.

What got me started thinking was talking with a friend of my mom's and mine that is the sales manager or something like that at Frontier City. She had told my mom that she needs an intern this summer, and if I wanted  to, that she would try and get me the position. I'd love to go back to work at FC. I miss the place so much, mainly the people. (Not the picking up trash at Front Gate or the cranky customers or running rides in the heat) We talked a lot, and I really think that if I can get the position, I'll go do that. It'll give me a taste for what the career is like. The only thing is, if I go into that field, there are absolutely no opportunities in Oklahoma for that kind of position. I'll have a hard time finding a job. Hmm.

What are your thoughts?

Love and Holidays and School

Jan. 2nd, 2007 | 07:27 pm
mood: loved loved
music: "Painless" by Mae

So I'm taking a break from working on my Study of the Americas Internal Assessment. UGH. Stupid papers. I really dislike internal assessments. But at least I'm done with all my TOK stuff, my math IA, and two essays out of my ITGS IA. Plus I'm done with my EE. And CAS hours. Now I just have to finish my SOTA and other stuff. I also have my World Lit #1 rough draft done. UGH IB. However, as long as Teague didn't lie to me and I didn't bomb my SOTA final, I should have straight As. WOOT. It'll be the first time that I've had straight A's since elementary school. Craaazy. Crazy good.

What wasn't crazy good was this stupid holiday break. I think I don't like the holidays much. I mean, I love giving and recieving presents and all the time I get to spend with my non parental family, but I really hate having to be around my parents this much. I'm so ready to be away from them. Soooo ready. They've been grating on my nerves like crazy. However, I have been able to spend a ton of time with Jon, which is good. During November and December we had hardly any time together thanks to finals. But luckily thats done with now.

But the best part of Christmas was this long story relating to a gift I gave to Jon and love. I'm finally starting to be able to somewhat define what love is for me, although I definitely believe there are many forms of it. I'm not sure what kind of love it is, but I love Jon. Not in the bastardization that I use when my friends are being goofy and I say I love them, although thats still a form of love for me. I love my friends. Each and every one of them. They've all made such an impact on my life. Some more than others. I think thats one of the greatest things about love. It's present in so many aspects of our lives, yet for me, I never really realized it. Its pretty cool.

So how has everyone else's holidays been?

End of Semester: Compy update and College Update

Dec. 20th, 2006 | 06:05 pm
location: my room
mood: accomplished

Ok, first exciting things first. I got my updated scholarship letter from OCU giving me the right scholarship for my 32 ACT. So now I have $16,000 a year there, which is about $1,000 short of tuition, which I will cover with my Methodist Congregation Member Scholarship. I also got my acceptance letter from UTD, and I'll be getting my scholarship letter from them in 4-6 weeks. I still won't get my letter from Tulsa til February. :(

Compy update! The only parts I lack are my DVD burner drive ($30), my motherboard ($60), my processor ($95) and my graphics card ($70). But just to be getting my computer up and running will cost me $180. But, I have $80 of rebates pending from my hard drive and RAM, so I'll only have to spend $100 more!!! I'm so damn close. Ommmgggg. I cannot wait. Oh, and depending on how hot the thing runs, I'll have to buy some 92mm fans to bring some more air in. But thats like ten bucks per fan. Stupid case only came with the back fan. Plus the front of it is solid, so I can't get any glowy lights for my fans either. Harumph.

So if all goes well, I'll be getting straight A's this semester. As long as I didn't fail my SOTA or Math or english final miserably, I'll have em. I'm so excited, because it's the first time I'll have straight As since elementary school. WOO!

Edit: WOOT! Got an 89 on my math final. That means I still have an A in there. Happy day. And I don't think I have anything to worry about in SOTa, because so far the class average for the final has been a 90. Suhweet! Now I just have to make sure that Teague puts in the bonus correctly to pull up my grade in that class. I have a friggen 88 right now, a high one at that.

Dec. 9th, 2006 | 11:13 am
location: My room
mood: happy happy
music: None

Ok, so yesterday was THE best day ever! I truly cannot believe how awesome it was. I went to school which was ehh, but not too bad since I ditched half of SOTA to work on a biology extra credit assignment for Teaguels. Plus I got a print done in photo, which I always love.

After school was pretty awesome too. I went to the mall to buy Jenefar's christmas present, then to get my car washed, and finally to Borders to buy Christmas presents for people, and the Bleach DVD for me. (WHY THE HELL IS ANIME SO EXPENSIVE?!?!?!?!) After all that I went and picked up Hayley. On the drive up there, I heard on the radio that the first fifty people in line at Pole Position Racing by my house would win Disturbed tickets. So I called Jon and asked him to go there to try and get some. But while I was waiting on Hayley to come outside, I get a phone call from the Buzz asking me if I had sent a text message to win Disturbed tickets! I was like yeah, and the lady said that I had won! So I get to head down there on Sunday around 5:15 to pick up my tickets, and the show starts at 6:30!!! Plus they're floor tickets, and I get to get in early!!! I have never been so excited. I hardly ever win anything like that, so it was great. So I call Jon and tell him, and then take Hayley home.

But it gets better. (Sorta) I come home and in the mail is a letter from OCU with my scholarship offers! Turns out right now they're giving me the $9,000 dollars a year Trustee Undergraduate Tuition Waiver and the $5,000 a year Petree College of Arts and Science Tuition Waiver! So thats $14,000 a year, or $7,000 a semester. Tuition is $9,500 at OCU per semester, so with the money I should get from Dad being an alumni and me being methodist, I'll have full tuition. The only problem with this is the fact that I should be getting $16,000 a year according to the website. I've emailed Rob about it (my admissions counselor who rocks the world), but haven't heard back yet of course. The website about the scholarships says that they factor in G.P.A and your ACT score, and that for a 32+ ACT and 3.5+G.P.A, you get 16,000 a year combined. SO, I'm thinking that my new ACT scores didn't come in in time for them to be considered, so yeah. I'm also thinking the honors program gives money, which I plan to be in if I go to OCU. So all in all, I'm pretty excited. Now to see if I can find any scholarships there that will give me money for room and board to top UTD. Which is why I really like UTD. They give you lots of money. The only thing I worry about is a lack of a really strong Social Scene there. I don't want it to be all hard work and no play. If I go to Tulsa, I know I'll have tons of opportunities to play there, especially since I plan to be in a sorority. Iono.

So yeah. My day still wasn't over. After getting home and finding that out, and doing research about it, I headed up to City Bites for Rachel's birthday party. Which I must say was AWESOME! It was a ton of people from school, and we had so much fun. After eating, we went to the movies to see Apocalypto, which was really great. It was like one great big adrenaline ride. I definently recommend it. After the movie we roamed around the mall til it closed, and then a bunch of people had to head home so they could get sleep for the ACT tomorrow, so we all dispersed. As I was leaving some guys said I had a cute car (or something like that), and I think they said I was cute too (I was getting in my car so I couldn't really hear), which was a nice ego boost. After the mall I headed over to Jon's for a bit, and then went home.

So now that I just made this huge long post, I'll shut up now. :-P I still must say though that this was the best day in a looong time. The rest of this weekend looks like it'll be just as awesome too.

Your Birthdate: March 15
For you, love is a natural progression from friendship. You are almost always friends first. In love, you are loyal, steady, and honest. You are not a cheater or even much of a flirt. You are likely to stay friends with your ex... and open to rekindling something in the future. Number of True Loves You'll Have: 4 Number of Times You'll Have Your Heart Broken: 6 You are most compatible with people born on the 6th, 15th, and 24th of the month.
What Does Your Birth Date Mean For Your Love Life?

Jon, isn't your birthday on the 6th? This is crazy ironic. I love blogthings.

College Acceptances

Dec. 7th, 2006 | 05:59 pm
location: My room
mood: anxious anxious
music: None

So besides the fact that I haven't posted in like forever, I realized that I hadn't updated everyone on where I've gotten into so far. I got my acceptance letter for OCU a while back, and I just got my TU acceptance letter in today!

So much for UTD so far. They still say my application is incomplete, even though I've given them my resume, transcript, essay, application, and ACT scores. It shows on the site that I still have to give them my end of year grades, but thats retarded. So I dunno. I guess I just have to wait more.

What I can't really wait for though is for my rebates on my hard drive and RAM to come in. 70 or 80 dollars of amazing goodness that is going straight towards my processor. If I keep all the money in my account in there and dont spend it, I'll have enough to buy the last parts for my computer!! Now I won't have the graphics card yet, but since I'm planning on buying a procesor with one built in, then it's no big deal. I'll buy IT later. Graduation maybe? Hehehe. I can't wait for graduation gifts. Except if I go to UTD, it'll all be stuff for my apartment. Pain in the ass! But apartments are bad-ass, so no biggie.

I also can't wait for finding out whether or not I made it to the finalist's weekend for the McDermott Scholars Program. Jonathan, what did you make on your ACT and what was your G.P.A consequently? You did get invited to that right? (I'm trying to gauge my chances on being accepted.) I also cannot wait to see how much money each school gives me. AGGGH.

I really cannot wait for college.

Thanksgiving: Round Four

Nov. 26th, 2006 | 06:36 pm

I've decided I'm kinda looking forward to married life and kinda not. Jon's family invited me to Thanksgiving at his Dad's and at his Mom's, and my family invited him to the one at our house and at my Aunt's, so I've been to four damned thanksgiving dinners. I swear, I've probably gained five pounds from all the food, lol. Yet it was all very yummy. I actually think though that the one at my house was the best, but that's just because we had some nice sparkling wine and crescent rolls with it, haha.

The really fun part though was at my Aunt's house today after dinner because we played Trival Pursuit Pop Culture DVD Edition, which was cool. I could actually answer quite a few of the questions. It was awesome. Especially all the video game questions... like: What arcade game in 199* (I think 3) featured the words "Finish Him"? MORTAL KOMBAT!!! I loved that one. There were soo many gamer questions in the Sports and Games section...made me happy to know something for sure. Oddly enough, my cousin and cousin in law ended up being the best, since they're real in tune with pop culture. But actually my mom and aunt won just barely, by luck. However, Jon and I almost won, because our final question was what four flavors are PEZ candies? We answered Strawberry, Grape, Lemon, and Watermelon, when the right answer was Strawberry, Grape, Lemon, and Orange. We were soooo close.

I love technology. I'm sitting here on my mom's laptop, and her Cingular GSM card is giving me an actually decent signal here on the turnpike, and Jon's sitting next to me with his Macbook using it as a light to do work on. Being able to surf the net anywhere there is a decent cell phone signal is awesome. Plus the wi-fi card keeps saying I get connections, but they aren't strong. So the stuff from Cingular is superior.

Lol, Jon just had a stroke of inspiration. (He's composing music)

Anyways. I wish more people than just Cynthia and Jonathan had livejournals. Like Cat. (Or rather I wish they'd post or something...)

Hmm... I don't know what else to ramble on about. I have soo much work to do still on my Study of the Americas IA. I have most of the research done, but I haven't gone through it all to highlight exactly what I need. My Math IA is faring slightly better. I have most of the data and the introduction written. Just gotta make up the rest of the data (UGH) or convince Hall I don't need more data... Hmm. I think I'll try for the latter and say I had no way to get people to play. Something. My ITGS IA is going ehh but I already have the rough draft started for the first one, and those essays are easy. I have no idea what the IA is for Bio though. English I really should start working on. I have no idea what I'm doing for it yet. Stupid Kafka. Stupid Solschznitzyn or however you spell his name. Stupid Marquez. Well they're not stupid but the essay I have to write over two of them is. German shouldn't be too hard, just a 3 minute oral or something like that. Not too big of a deal, my spoken language is pretty strong. (Hey, I like to talk) So my IAs aren't going too badly, but not great either. I can't wait to be able to say that I'm done with them.

I just can't wait to be done with IB. To graduate. (I'll resist now from breaking into song... ya know, lion king I just can't wait to be kiiiiiing. OK I'm sad. Haha)

*yawns*

Ok, I'm updating again! No, the sky has not fallen. I'm sitting in my room on my mom's new duo core laptop computer she got from her office. Needless to say, I'm jeallous. She has a friggen gig of ram. I'll probably only be able to affor 512 MB for my compy... :(

Speaking of my compy, I have good news! I'm going to be buying a graphics card (512 MB Radeon x1600 Pro) for $99.99, and a 200 GB Hard drive for 19.99 (after rebates). Plus I'll be getting a digital camera for Christmas along with these computer parts, and I'll be buying some RAM hopefully. I may just go ahead and buy my motherboard... I'm not sure. I know for sure though I'm going to buy my DVD drive with my rebate money. I'm so excited. :)

I seriously cannot wait to have my computer built. I just wish I could be able to have a laptop to take to school. Since my mom is getting to keep her old laptop,  I wonder if she'd let me borrow it for school? That'd be nice... I wouldn't even neccessarily want it for the net, just to take notes on. I would actually pay attention in SOTA for once I think. Haha. I'm great. Seriously though, her new laptop is rockin, even if it only has a 60GB hard drive. I'm finally going to have a copy of my iPod files on a computer again (Due to the fact that we were out of space on our old computer, I had deleted all my music files. Good thing too since I killed the CPU...)

I now vow to, while working on any computer I am unfamiliar with, have someone with me to keep me from doing stupid things. I'll just slap them though if they try to do it for me. Back off bitches!

I love laptops. Seriously. If they weren't so expensive, I would have just bought a super laptop to have played my games on, but its actually cheaper to get a dinky laptop and build a decent desktop computer. SAD, but true. I'm only going to spend about 700 or so on my computer. I'm guestimating I'll spend 650 on everything but the monitor, keyboard, and mouse. Noot bad for a gig of ram, 200GB HD space, 512MB GPU, 2.5Ghz duo core processor... woot.

I love black friday. Rediculous deals, but goood the lines I'm scared of. I'm planning to get up as early as four possibly if I still have to go to best buy for my GPU, later if I don't since I'm going to Staples for my HD.

ACT Results!!!

location: Comp room
music: ~ Eternity ~ Memories of Lights and Waves

Wow. I was able to get my ACT results online early today... here they are.
 Test Score
(1-36)
Subscore
(1-18)
English34
Usage/Mechanics  18
Rhetorical Skills  16
Mathematics31
Pre-Algebra/Elementary Algebra  18
Int. Algebra/Coord.Geometry  15
Plane Geometry/Trigonometry  14
Reading34
Social Studies/Science 17
Arts/Literature 17
Science29

Its exactly what I was shooting for. This is probably one of the more exciting things I've had happen in a while. Its especially rewarding because I've been working my ASS off this year. It's good to see some of it reflected.

I'm quite happy now too, because ALL my college applications will be turned in after I mail my app to TCU tomorrow. Can you say exciting?!?! Plus I found out today that I was chosen as an Oustanding Student of America, so now I'm elligible for a $1,000 dollar scholarship.

Yet I'm still really scared that I won't get enough money for college. As in, I need a full ride. If I don't get one, then I have to take out loans in my age, and I do NOT want to have that much debt this soon. I guess all I can do now is see what the colleges say...

In a way though, I still wish I could have done better. My science score dropped three points... if I had done the same as my first score in science, would my score have been higher? Maybe I'm being nit-picky...

Reflections on the College Admissions Process

Nov. 1st, 2006 | 09:35 pm

So you all may be wondering where in the hell I've been lately. Biggest time sucking black hole for me lately? College applications. I'm only applying to four schools- University of Tulsa, Texas Christian University, Oklahoma City University, and University of Texas at Dallas. I have to write an essay for each of them, although I'm using the same essay for TCU and TU, and of course the silly paper application. Which is the source of my post today. How much does an application really say about a student?

This leads me to my gripe. I believe that even with an essay, the application process to a typical university is still not personal enough. Yes, class enrollment, and other such statistics can give you an idea of what a person is like, but I also think the resume is one of the most pivotal parts of what should be on an applicaition. Plus, I believe that it helps students to prepare themselves for the real world, where they have to give a resume to get a job. TCU so far has impressed me the most with their admissions process, minus the fact that the admissions counselor has not emailed me back in two days, which was the second email I sent to her after the email I sent a month ago.

Why do I think TCU does a good job? Four reasons. They allow you to submit a recent photograph, their essay topics are varied and lead to interesting discussions, they specifically request a resume and give you a format for it, AND they allow you to send in a 8 1/2 X 11 sheet of paper with anything you want on it. I loved the idea of the freedom of expression page. I especially liked how, so far, the admissions process has been so personal. The application seems to do a decent job of letting the student enlighten the reviewer about more than just their basic stats, but actually about who they are. Not everyone neccessarily wants to have a personalized process, but for me I do. I hate filling out fifty million forms that don't really say anything about me, and then writing an essay that I have to BS on, because I don't particurally like the topic. (Although, I love my essays that I'm sending to Tulsa and TCU, which talk about my most signifigant experience, which was attending CSAS)

On a totally unrelated note, when I haven't been doing things pertaining to college applications and that what-not, I've been busy with school work. I swear, this year has in some ways had so much more work that needs to be done than last year. Maybe it is just because I have all these college applications to do. All I know is that my data for my math IA is due next wednesday, and I have exactly one more Ext. Essay class to collect it in, and Saturday. UGH.

I'm going to wind down before I go to sleep now, so I can actually sleep. TTYL.

The first post in a redicuosly long time. (Mispelt and I don't care)

Oct. 24th, 2006 | 09:52 pm
location: Comp room
mood: crazy crazy
music: "Redemption" By Gackt

So you might be wondering what face of the earth I dropped off of. For those of you that lived through it, one acronym. IB. 'Nuff said.

Although Jonathan, as much as I liked all the material on the Wiki for SOTA, I didn't like the layout, and plus it's easier to update with Googlepages, so I made a new site. I haven't moved any of the material on the wiki over yet, except for the causes of WWI. You can see the site at http://csas.ib.sota.googlepages.com.

And I must admit. For a pre-fab layout, its be-a-utiful. But then again, its a google creation, so its a given I guess.

I'm pretty excited though. I should have all A's on my quarter report card for the exception of Biology. Which is an 81. Oh god. I'm scared it's going to drop. I really need to get 7 A's, because then I'll be able to bump my UNWEIGHTED GPA from a 3.56 to a 3.6. Although I really want a 3.75 or greater, it's too late for that I suppose. Why oh why must so many schools not take weighted GPAs? Or SL credit for that matter. Ugh.

You know you're a classen student if you obsess about raising your GPA one tenth of a point, or think that a 30  on the ACT wasn't all that great.

On the other hand though, senior year has been fun. Its already been going so quickly. I can't believe its already time for Charity Ball again. Yet summer seems like it was sooo long ago.

I think that the sentences I've written for this post are some of the shortest that I've written in about two months. Seriously. I'm so used to writing compound complex sentences trying to make word counts its not even funny. We've gotten two rediculous essays that have absolutely no point to them. Mrs. Harris wants us to do them. One was sent to IB for god knows what, and the other, well we have no idea what its for. The first question was, "What would you do if you knew you could not fail?" Everyone ended up answering that with a laundry list of rediculous things, and then using the rediculousness of those things to basically say that the essay was a waste of our time and that the question was stupid. The second was a 600 word essay that sounded IDENTICAL to something you'd write for a college/scholarship admissions essay.

Do you get assignments in college that are a waste of your time? I mean honestly. It's getting old.

Although I've found that I really love Math Studies. When my math assignments have become weekly things, at most, and they're never much more than about 20 problems, well needless to say I'm happy.

I'm still going to die though. SOOO many things to do!!!

So instead of doing them, I'm writing short choppy sentences instead of paragraphs here on my LJ. I sound like I'm a newspaper writer or something. Gah.

Politics

So has anyone discovered the campaign issues for 2006 that are important to them on facebook? If you haven't, you need to. (JONATHAN! :-P) There are some awesome groups on there. All you have to do to find them is go to groups and campaign 2006, and it'll show them all. Some of them are outright ridiculous (like stop government funding for vampires, or something like that), and others are really cool.

So lately I've just been doing the small amount of homework I've had (Seriously, its been a tiny amount. But soon to increase exponentally.) and hanging out with Jon. Now that rush week is over, it'll probably be more time than before even. Yesterday was really fun though, because my parents and I, Jon, and my godmother, debbie, all watched the game.

I finally got my computer case in. So now all I have to do is save up about 600-700 dollars to buy the rest of my things for it, and I'll be able to build it! Currently all my poor case has in it is a hideous floppy drive that doesn't even have a face plate, the power cables, the connection cables for the front USB ports and whatnot, and the power supply. Its a little depressing, but really cool at the same time because my case is sooo pretty. It reminds me of an iPod, mind you the older ones, with the pearlescent white and sleek design. It's spiffy.

I cannot wait to go to college...

Beautiful Shiny Things

Aug. 22nd, 2006 | 08:53 pm
location: My room
mood: energetic energetic
music: Random iTunes trance music station

So I'm sitting in my room surfing the net and learning how to use a mac on Jon's new Macbook. It's soooo pretty. It moves super fast (the only thing thats taking a while is copying twenty GB worth of stuff off my iPod onto his hard drive, an hour at that) and is shiny and silver and has a built in webcam, and all the awesome mac programs like Office for Mac, Garage Band, and all the video and photo programs. And he got a sixty GB black iPod that is beaaautiiiful. I'm jeallous of the man. Fun thing is that I get to use his macbook at lan parties if we can get the games on it. Whee!!! (Course theoretically I'll have my OWN computer to be playing games on. I'm ordering my case tomorrow probably!!!)

School's finally started. I'm happy to be back. First day was German, SOTA, English, and then Video (Technically my photo class), and then today was Math, ITGS, Ext. Essay, and Bio. I had homework in four of my classes, which kinda sucked, but it wasn't a big deal. It was nice to see everyone again. I had forgotten how much I missed everyone. I got Tessa her birthday present (a really old school polaroid camera) that she loved, and then brought chocolate for everyone. Cookie got me this GORGEOUS fan from Vietnam that my mom is jeallous of (lol), and so she got more chocolate since I didn't realize she was getting me anything. (Yay for bringing extra even though I didn't have enough.)

WOW I love this computer. It's pretty. Its new. Its shiny. And the effing display is bigger than the monitor on my computer. 17" of widescreen glory. Ahh his Macbook Pro makes me happy. It's the top of the line one too since he's spoiled. (actually its because he got a student loan)

Ok. So it's awesome. Facebook is allowing us to link our livejournals to Facebook notes.

Dell sucks.

Aug. 16th, 2006 | 07:19 pm
location: Comp Room
mood: frustrated frustrated

So get ready for some laughs kids. So I'm sitting at the computer, trying to burn some cds to back up all the crap I have on here to free up some space, so it'll be easier to transition to my new computer once I build it. Nero starts to burn a cd, then gives me a power calibration error at 5%. I'm like, wtf, and so I try it at a lower speed. It burns, and I go on to the next cd. It does the same thing again. I go at a lower speed, it burns, and then I go on. Then I burn another cd, it does it again. So I get pissed, start looking for a driver update. None, of course. So I chance it, and sign onto Dell's online chat representative place. Bolded are the particurally hilarious parts.

08/16/2006 06:29:00PM Session Started with Agent (Sheetal_01112429)
08/16/2006 06:29:07PM Agent (Sheetal_01112429): "Thank you for contacting Dell Technical Support. My name is Sheetal and my rep ID number is 01112429. May I have your telephone number, along with the area code?"
08/16/2006 06:29:19PM Christen: "***********"
08/16/2006 06:29:31PM Agent (Sheetal_01112429): "Thank you Christen."
08/16/2006 06:29:44PM Agent (Sheetal_01112429): "May I have your last name to update the records ?"
08/16/2006 06:29:57PM Christen: "Brown"
08/16/2006 06:30:20PM Agent (Sheetal_01112429): "Thank you."
08/16/2006 06:30:22PM Agent (Sheetal_01112429): "Meanwhile, I would like to inform you that you might get an invitation to participate in survey at the end of this session. You will be asked to rate our interaction on a scale of 1 to 9 with 9 being very satisfied. In order to participate in the survey,"
08/16/2006 06:30:53PM Agent (Sheetal_01112429): "As I can see from the records, you have Dim 4600C with an operating system as Win XP Pro. Am I correct?"
08/16/2006 06:31:06PM Christen: "Right"
08/16/2006 06:31:49PM Agent (Sheetal_01112429): "I would be more than glad to assist you. Please let me know how may I assist you today?"
08/16/2006 06:32:39PM Christen: "While burning a cd, I keep getting a power calibration error from my burning program, Nero. I've tried it at lower speeds, and sometimes it will burn, sometimes it will not."
08/16/2006 06:33:25PM Agent (Sheetal_01112429): "Ok."
08/16/2006 06:33:39PM Agent (Sheetal_01112429): "Have you tried any other burning software except Nero?"
08/16/2006 06:34:14PM Christen: "Not recently, but in the past I've gotten similar errors with iTunes and Easy CD Creator"
08/16/2006 06:34:26PM Agent (Sheetal_01112429): "Ok."
08/16/2006 06:34:31PM Agent (Sheetal_01112429): "Since how long have you been facing this issue?"
08/16/2006 06:35:14PM Christen: "I'm not really sure, since I don't burn cds a whole lot. The last time may have been around a few months ago"
08/16/2006 06:35:47PM Agent (Sheetal_01112429): "Ok."
08/16/2006 06:35:50PM Agent (Sheetal_01112429): "Have you made any changes to your system or added any hardware or software into it before this issue began?"
08/16/2006 06:37:38PM Christen: "None that I can think of"
08/16/2006 06:37:46PM Agent (Sheetal_01112429): "Have you performed any troubleshooting steps to resolve the issue? If yes, could you please let me know?"
08/16/2006 06:38:22PM Christen: "Well, I checked device manager to see if there were any issues, none of course, and so I tried looking for an updated driver, couldn't find one either."
08/16/2006 06:38:42PM Agent (Sheetal_01112429): "Not a problem, I am here to help you ."
08/16/2006 06:39:28PM Agent (Sheetal_01112429): "Christen, I am sending you a link ."
08/16/2006 06:39:47PM Christen: "Ok"
08/16/2006 06:40:07PM Agent (Sheetal_01112429): "Please insert a known good blank CD in the drive , follow the steps in the link to burn data ( pictures or music ) on the CD ."
08/16/2006 06:40:14PM Agent (Sheetal_01112429): "Here is the link :"

08/16/2006 06:42:48PM Christen: "Ok, I'm working on that now."
08/16/2006 06:45:16PM Agent (Sheetal_01112429): "Are we able to follow the steps ?"
08/16/2006 06:45:27PM Christen: "Ok, I dragged two files onto the drive, but when I click on "Write these files to CD", I get a windows error message, and the wizard does not appear."
08/16/2006 06:45:40PM Agent (Sheetal_01112429): "I am sorry that chat window hanged for a while."
08/16/2006 06:46:29PM Agent (Sheetal_01112429): "What was the error ?"
08/16/2006 06:46:59PM Christen: "All it did was make the error sound, I'm sorry I said that wrong."
08/16/2006 06:47:36PM Agent (Sheetal_01112429): "That is ok Christen ."
08/16/2006 06:47:48PM Agent (Sheetal_01112429): "Let’s check the drivers in device manager. Click on start button--- Run ---- Type " devmgmt.msc" -----click on ok ."

08/16/2006 06:49:19PM Christen: "No, I had checked for that earlier."

08/16/2006 06:55:22PM Agent (Sheetal_01112429): "Ok."
08/16/2006 06:55:41PM Agent (Sheetal_01112429): "Now right click on any of the options -- click on scan for hardware changes ."
08/16/2006 06:56:15PM Christen: "Done, got a window saying the new hardware is installed and ready for use"
08/16/2006 06:57:09PM Agent (Sheetal_01112429): "Ok."
08/16/2006 06:57:20PM Agent (Sheetal_01112429): "Now , please follow the same steps to burn data on blank CD ."
08/16/2006 06:57:55PM Christen: "I got the same sound again, no CD writing wizard."

08/16/2006 07:02:12PM Agent (Sheetal_01112429): "Thank you."
08/16/2006 07:05:17PM Agent (Sheetal_01112429): "I apologize for the delay."
08/16/2006 07:06:13PM Christen: "Its ok."
08/16/2006 07:06:44PM Agent (Sheetal_01112429): "Christen, I have searched for the exact firmware but could not find one."
08/16/2006 07:06:58PM Agent (Sheetal_01112429): "The drive seems to have gone bad."
08/16/2006 07:07:36PM Agent (Sheetal_01112429): "I am afraid to say that as the warranty of the system is expired, please replace the drive ."
08/16/2006 07:07:37PM Christen: "Seems that way too. But if it's bad, then why does it burn sometimes and sometimes won't?"
08/16/2006 07:09:03PM Christen: "Eh, thanks for your help. I'll be building a PC from scratch soon so it's no big deal. I'll get a new drive then. Thanks."
08/16/2006 07:10:43PM Agent (Sheetal_01112429): "You are welcome."
So he can't speak proper english, he ignores me when I told him I had already checked the driver for the evil yellow or red symbols, and I had already told him I had searched myself for a new driver. Plus it takes him sometimes two minutes to respond, only to respond with "Ok." I guess I really gave this guy a headache or something.

So, now the cd drive still doesn't really burn right, but at least now I have an even more convincing sell for getting a new computer.

So, off to dinner with my godparents, I'll write more later. Toodles!

Organization is a bitch

Aug. 13th, 2006 | 10:32 pm
location: Comp Room
mood: happy happy
music: Is it Love- iiO

So I went to Johnie's with Jon's dad and step mom, lotsa fun. I found out his stepmom was a Delta Gamma at OUwith my godmother. Small world... Anyways, last night was fun too because I finally got to meet Adrian, Jon's big brother in Kappa Alpha. Really awesome guy. He was like drooling, because we were showing him the good deals I got on my computer.

Speaking of my computer, OMG! It's going to be sooooo bad ass once I build it. Here's a link to a wishlist with all the parts I'm planning to buy for it. I drool every time I look at my case. https://secure.newegg.com/NewVersion/Wishlist/PublicWishDetail.asp?WishListNumber=3148732&WishListTitle=Christen%27s+First+Build

Tell me thats not a pretty damn good deal considering the parts. Plus I've researched it all and the parts seem to be good, and mostly bug free. Suh-weet! I can't wait to build it...

So todays been spent finishing my math packet (100 problems, two days. I must say I'm proud. :P) And I've finished my english assignments, AND organized my english notebook. Plus I've gotten all but at least 100-300 words finished on my TOK external assesment. So that means I'm like practically done for TOK. All I have to do now is work some on my extended essay. Which will be tough to pick off where I left off.

I must admit. This has been a highly productive week.
